In 2025, QuIP will carry out a proficiency test for nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) for the first time. NTM comprise mycobacteria that are neither attributed to the Mycobacterium (M.) tuberculosis complex nor to M. leprae. They are characterized by a broad diversity in terms of habitats and adaptations to different environmental conditions. Some species can cause defined disease pattern, especially in patients with systemic immunosuppression, pre-existing lung diseases or genetically increased susceptibility.
